Big G took a step back from its drive towards becoming Big Brother today.

“Today, we’re announcing a new logs retention policy: we’ll anonymize IP addresses on our server logs after 9 months. We’re significantly shortening our previous 18-month retention policy to address regulatory concerns and to take another step to improve privacy for our users.”

Our bud Ross Dunn over at Stepforth gave his blog readers some tips on how to sign up for the soon to be launched Microsoft Live Messages.

According to the official Windows Live Video Messages home page this service is not available to the public until September 9th but thanks to a back door entrance courtesy of LiveSide it is in fact open to those of you who would like to give it a shot.
